Solar is one of the fastest-growing industries in the US. Not only is solar energy clean; for most Americans it also saves money vs. buying power from the utility. Studies show that the #1 barrier to solar adoption is concern over upfront cost. The mission of the SunPower Financial team is to remove that barrier by making it cheap and easy for homeowners to go solar with no money down.Reporting to the Senior Director, Capital Markets, this role will design, implement, and own complex financial models in support of our residential solar loan and lease business. This includes transaction modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and stochastic analysis to measure risk. The solar industry enjoys a complex array of Federal and State incentives and tax benefits designed to spur solar adoption, build a green manufacturing sector in the US, and combat climate change. Maximizing the value of these unique benefits requires particularly complex financing arrangements, which in turn require advanced financial modeling capabilities. As the lead financial modeling expert of our team, you will be at the center of this complexity. Your models will be in production at the heart of our automated pricing and underwriting systems. You will be a trusted expert advisor to SunPower senior leadership on how to optimize the lease and loan business.This is a senior position that brings immediate opportunities for real-world impact. Your work will translate directly into savings for our customers, which in turn will lead to faster growth and meaningful P&L upside for SunPower. The ideal candidate has a track record building and operating complex financial and statistical models for asset-backed securities or project finance transactions, including running stress scenarios. Your understanding of statistical methods is robust. You are proficient in the tools of the quantitative practitioner, e.g. Python, R, and/or Matlab. You are comfortable working with very large datasets, and with modern scientific platforms such as Sagemaker, Azure ML, Datalab, etc.The ideal candidate will be an independent and curious thinker who can build robust, high performing models that will scale for the future, and can make convincing, information-based arguments to influence the direction of the company. This role has C-level visibility and requires delivery and operation of a complex set of solutions at a high bar for quality in a fast-paced environment. Superior analytical training and abilities are essential.Basic qualifications:---Bachelors' degree in Financial Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar technical field.---8+ years' experience in a financial modeling role, with at least some of that period working on problems related to ABS, structured credit, and/or project finance transactions or investments.---Proven ability to write performant code in at least one programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, or Python).---Proven ability to analyze large data sets and draw useful commercial conclusions.---A sound understanding of fixed income mathematical concepts.---A keen interest in solving analytical problems.---Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks to maximize value.Preferred qualifications:---Master's degree in an analytical area such as Financial Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar technical field.---Experience with solar loan or lease transactions, especially tax equity partnerships.---Experience with time series forecasting methods.---Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.---Ability to be a trusted expert advisor and partner who can work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders.Professional traits that are not unique to this position but necessary for SunPower leaders:---Exhibits excellent judgment---Hires great people.
