About the Photo Studio Set Building Team
The photo studio set shop fabricates sets and environments for all WSI brands in the photo studio. We're a talented team of woodworkers, scenic artists, and custom fabricators.

Overview of the Lead Photo Studio Set Builder role
Lead builders are responsible for coordinating weekly/daily tasks with the team and overall schedule. Managing the warehouse of set elements and daily operations. Leads have the opportunity to work with creative directors and set shop managers to source and design components of the sets to bring the creative team's vision into reality.

Responsibilities


  • Primary responsibilities are to supervise the construction of sets in a safe and efficient manner
  • Supervise full-time staff, scenic painters, and temp/overhire builders
  • Thrive in design with close attention to detail and enthusiasm for research to supply the creative team with exactly what they are looking for on set
  • Coordinate builds with the manager, co-lead, crew, and creative teams
  • Proactive in investigating challenges and collaboratively troubleshooting solutions
  • Efficient with triaging priorities and tasks
  • Extensive knowledge of set building process:
  • materials, hardware, supplies
  • carpentry, rigging, painting, tile work, and metalwork
  • Technical knowledge - electrics, pneumatics, tool maintenance
  • Coordinate workflow throughout the set shop, paint shop, storage warehouse, and studio spaces in a fast-paced environment
  • Create and/or interpret scenic design drawings and create plans for how to fulfill designers' concepts within the creative team's budget
  • Manage efficient workflow by prioritizing set assembly and utilizing available resources across teams.
  • Maintaining organization, materials safety data sheets, and upkeep
  • Training new team members and teaching them techniques and skills

    Criteria

    • We look for proactive, out-of-the-box thinkers. Driven and passionate about authentic scenery, attention to detail, and customer service.
    • Extensive knowledge of set building process:
    • materials, hardware, supplies
    • carpentry, rigging, painting, tile work, and metalwork
    • Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • A minimum of three years professional lead or supervisor experience
    • Knowledge in architecture/design/art/fabrication training is a plus
    • Ability to read and interpret building diagrams and plans
    • General proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of a production paint shop
    • Possess a sense of urgency focused on details, accuracy, and efficiency
    • Excellent communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to move and/or lift up to 50 lbs; heavier structures with team assist
    • Excellent communications skills regarding reading, written and verbal language (English) to effectively work with team members and cross-functioning teams

          The expected starting pay range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
