Santa Cruz Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS), led by
the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Success, consists of
nearly 250 team members spanning 3 major units and 21 departments.

student success programs, activities, and initiatives. DSAS also
does our work through a range of resource centers dedicated to

organizations and highly engaged in the local community.The Student
Success and Equity (SSE) portfolio of departments is a branch of
DSAS focused on academic support services, advising/counseling,
student life/co-curricular programming, student identity
development and retention/student success initiatives. Student
Success and Equity provides services to the campus community with
over 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students and has over 90
career employees and 475 student staff employees operating in 8
facilities/locations. The Student Success and Equity area includes
a wide array of multi-disciplinary academic and non-academic units
including: Disability Resource Center (DRC), Educational
Opportunity Programs (EOP), Learning Support Services, Services for
Transfer, Re-entry and Resilient Scholars (STARRS), Renaissance
Scholars Program (including Foster Youth), Veteran Resource Center,
African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American

of the El Centro Director, the Program Coordinator coordinates
multiple programs, provides substantial administrative support, and
performs supervisory duties of student interns for El Centro. The
Program Coordinator will work with student populations and issues
as they relate to academic success and personal development in a
comprehensive university setting. The incumbent works
collaboratively to develop, implement, and sustain El Centro
activities funded by federal grants. The incumbent will also assist
in developing and executing co-curricular, academic, educational,
and collaborative programming amongst all the Resource Centers in
partnership with other Division of Student Success units and
academic departments, with a particular focus on programs that
serve Latine students. Resource Centers include African American
Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource
Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center
(AA/PIRC), El Centro: Chicanx Latinx Resource Center, Womxn's
Center, and Lionel Cantu Gay Lesbian Bi Trans Intersex Resource
Center (Cantu Queer Center). Using professional student services
theories and concepts, the Program Coordinator performs a limited
range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life program.
The Program Coordinator works independently to provide information
and interpretation of clearly defined policies, procedures and
regulations. The Program Coordinator receives direction regarding
more complex issues and / or program(s), identifies individual
student needs for programs and services, and advises on appropriate

- Provides essential support services for a student program(s)
and / or provides basic academic support services for Latine
communities at UC Santa Cruz (UCSC).
- Assists Resource Center Directors and Specialists in producing
and promoting large-scale events and project management, with
particular focus on programs and events out of El Centro, such as
contacting guests and coordinating travel, schedules, and day of
program volunteer coordination and logistical details.
- Plans and coordinates logistics for El Centro workshops and
annual events such as La Bienvenida: Fall Student Welcome, Dia de
los Muertos Ceremonia, Pachanga, and Chicane Latine Year-End
Ceremony, as well as Resource Center collaborative programs and
activities such as Student Leadership Institute, Resource Center
welcome events, and ERC Open House.
- Plans and coordinates specific cultural activities aimed at
outreach, recruitment, and retention of historically
underrepresented students and families within Latine
communities.
- Works collaboratively to develop and implement El Centro
activities funded by federal grants. Contributes to formative and
summative evaluation reports for Title V-funded activities.
- Collaborates with various campus units and faculty to support
UCSC's mission as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
- Develops and oversees community service projects; handles all
aspects of program coordination, including finances, fundraising,
speaker/facilitator relations, content development, publicity, and
necessary materials.
- Evaluates programs in writing, including statistical data;
reports regularly on content and success of programs.
- Maintains relationships with internal and external
organization's stakeholders, particularly internal and external
organizations that serve Latine communities important to program
success.
- Plans and coordinates collaborative programs with campus units,
academic departments and student groups.
- In partnership with other professional staff at El Centro,
co-develops and implements training for various campus units,
including residential staff, student groups, and classes.
- Works with outside agencies to refer students to engage in
public service roles; identifies resources for student volunteer
opportunities.
- Connects bi-annually with local Santa Cruz organizations to
identify opportunities for programming and service
collaborations.
- Coordinates outreach visits for prospective students and
families to share about Latine student life and resources at
UCSC.
- Supports the El Centro Graduate Student Coordinator in their
role to develop graduate student programming and services for
graduate students.25% - Advising and Supervising Student Staff
- Provides transactional advising and guidance to student leaders
participating in El Centro internships programs, student
government, co-curricular programs and / or organizations on
non-sensitive issues. Facilitates student development in
leadership, communication skills, project coordination and
establishing goals.
- Provides general supervision to student employees, volunteers,
and interns; provides training, orientation, supervision, and
evaluation of student staff and volunteers who work on various
projects.
- Advises student employees on program development, learning
outcomes, and project management.
- Assists in the selection and hiring of student interns and
volunteers.
- Maintains a commitment to recruitment and management efforts
that support staff diversity.
- Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers for large-scale
programs, including creating Google forms, communicating with
students, supporting with publicity, and assigning tasks.
- Supervises interns in applying research or theoretical concepts
to practice by identifying areas of servingness on campus that can
be improved. Provides guidance in creating actionable steps while
actively engaging in reflection and applying practical
solutions.
- Under the guidance of El Centro Director, RC Directors, or RC
specialists, resolves non-complex individual cases regarding
student affairs or student life.
- Advises individual students and student staff/interns on
academic, career, and personal issues; makes needed referrals;
develops and updates referral listings.
- Monitors student intern academic performance and maintains
accurate grade reporting information.25% - Administrative Support
- Serves as an advisor to a small student service operation,
which may include training students and staff, preparing budgets,
and fiscal analysis.
- Represents El Centro at relevant campus committee meetings;
serves as primary administrative support for staff and committees
requiring staff participation; responsible for minute preparation
during weekly professional and student staff meetings.
- Supervises and maintains student intern schedules. Coordinates
El Centro staff and student participation and schedule for
on-campus resource fairs.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of campus and
unit policies, procedures and regulations related to unit
programming; furnishes such information as necessary and makes
referrals as appropriate.
- Establishes work standards and office procedures and ensures
consistent application, in consultation with El Centro
Director.
- Manages facilities, reservations, office supplies, and
equipment.
- Assists in fiscal management, including creating and closing
Purchase Orders, reviewing encumbrances, and submitting necessary
forms for purchases, reimbursements, and other fiscal matters.
Creates program budgets for federally funded activities and ensure
expenditures adhere to the Department of Education and UCSC
spending policies.
- Assists with the maintenance and staffing of the Ethnic
Resource Centers Lounge and Front Desk, as needed.
- May provide recommendations and suggestions for changes and /
or development of new activities and services.
- Assesses programming needs; works with Latine communities to
design and implement programs; develops programming with student
organizations, colleges, resource centers, and other campus
units.
- Maintains databases of El Centro internship program alumni,
staff/faculty affiliated with El Centro programs, and student
leaders from Latine groups.
- Maintains archives of events; designs materials to evaluate,
assesses and maintains statistics, and produces reports on
programming events. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and
/ or equivalent experience / training.Experience in creating,
implementing, and publicizing diverse, successful, mostly
low-budget large- and small-scale events.Strong initiative and
resourcefulness.Problem-solving skills.Strong attention to
detail.Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to
independently prioritize and complete multiple tasks
simultaneously, even in a noisy, high-interruption
environment.Strong cultural competency skills to engage with
individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially those with
identities served by Resource Centers. Experience working with
diverse student populations, including student organizations and
campus departments.Knowledge and understanding of diversity issues
in higher education, with the ability to engage in conversations
about diversity, equity, and inclusion.Related administrative
experience sufficient to provide support functions to the Resource
Center Director and staff.Interpersonal skills, with the ability to
facility discussions and mediate conflict resolution while
exercising tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity.Communication skills
sufficient to give, receive, and record clear, concise information
(both written and oral).Ability to produce detailed reports and
documents; ability to analyze data, present findings, and suggest
resolutions.Ability to learn policies and procedures from both
verbal and written sources; ability to apply and explain office
policies and procedures with consistency.Knowledge and experience
using office computer applications such as Google Email and
Calendars, Word, Excel, and database software. PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with advising, especially to college-age
students.
