Software Engineering department seeks a Senior Engineering Manager
to head a team of software development engineers responsible for
providing aviators and crew with the highest fidelity training
solutions for the missions that they perform. This impact is felt
both domestically and abroad with trainers for both our US
Government and for international governments through Foreign
Military Sales. This manager will lead engineers in development of
simulation systems and products. This position will be based in
Sterling Virginia. The Senior Engineering Manager role is comprised
of two main functions, a technical portion, and a leader portion.
In the technical area this role has direct responsibility for
leadership and management of the software engineering discipline
(scope, budget control) for special access programs through their
full lifecycle. Participating in bids and proposals, detailed
requirements, design, development, integration, test, verification
and validation are areas of focus for this team. Candidate should
have prior engineering experience with simulation systems or strong
knowledge in software engineering, technical project and people
leadership. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying
the necessary staff, facilities and equipment needed for successful
execution of projects. You must have strong technical, leadership
and organizational skills as well as project management experience.
You will be expected to spend a significant portion of your time in
a direct technical role and have the ability to unleash energy
within a team through passion and enthusiasm. The ideal candidate
will have a proven track record of managing engineers working in
various lifecycle development environments including Agile,
Waterfall and Spiral development. Versatility and the ability to
thrive in a dynamic environment while managing competing priorities
are critical to success. The ideal candidate will possess the
ability to influence as well as lead and will be capable of clearly
communicating across organizations as well as senior leadership.
The ideal candidate will be analytical and make data-driven
decisions and will be a servant leader eager to mentor less
experienced engineers, share their knowledge with peers, and
consistently work to make their team successful. This position
requires excellent written and verbal communication skills along
with the ability to interface frequently with Executive Managers,
Program Managers and Operations Managers, amongst other leadership
roles across all business areas within Collins Aerospace.
Development of powerful internal and external networks, forging
relationships with peers in the triad (Engineering, Business
Development, and Program/Product management) is highly encouraged.
The manager will lead a group of 10-20 software engineers and
provide direct technical support to projects. The manager will
coach in a fast-paced environment, drive teamwork and continuous
improvements. This position requires ownership, attention to detail
and teamwork for the development of a positive and productive work
environment. What you will do: Head a team responsible for software
development, testing, releases & delivery. Hold the team
accountable for meeting planned program milestones and activities.
Assess employee’s skills and identify training and development
needs for the team. Establish a strong team through recruiting,
hiring, on-boarding and assimilation of new hires. Interact with
program management ensuring the scope is managed and staffing plans
are achievable. Actively manage staff loading ensuring firm and
anticipated demand is accurate and appropriate staff levels are
allocated. This position may require occasional travel both
domestically and international. Assist in tactical implementation
of organization’s strategic goals. Ensure all enterprise
engineering, quality and business conduct process and policies are
implemented and understood. Assist with bid reviews and ensure
cadences and product ownership is established for the team.
Qualifications You Must Have: Typically requires a degree in
Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum
10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a
related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a
degree, 14 years of relevant experience Active and transferable
U.S. government issued Secret Security Clearance or higher is
required prior to start date Skills we seek: Experience in software
engineering development process from bids and proposals through
verification and validation. Strong technical leadership of small
to medium engineering teams. Resource planning experience including
staff, facilities, and equipment needed for successful project
execution. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications We Prefer: Development background in Microsoft
Windows Visual Studio C/C++/C#, Python & Matlab Simulink.
Experience and working knowledge of capture process and proposal
development. Strong acumen for earned value management. Cost
account management experience preferred. Experience with Agile,
Waterfall, Spiral and DevSecOps development process. Skilled in ALM
tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jama, Bamboo, and Crucible.

for this role is 145,600 USD - 276,800 USD. The salary range
