purpose of this position is to oversee the implementation and
enforcement of compliance policies and procedures, including those
to address identified compliance risks as well as those developed
in response to new or amended laws and regulations and industry
best practices as part of an overall compliance program. The role
will include management and direction over specific areas of the
program as assigned by the Managing Director Compliance. Supports
Managing Director Compliance and Legal & Compliance Department
("L&C") with their initiatives and projects.Job
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and mentorship to team including appropriate
task assignments, effective training and development, appropriate
performance management, adherence to department policies and
procedures, and ensure that the team resources are efficiently
utilized to achieve operational objectives.
- Responsible for risk assessments and identification as well as
oversight and monitoring of first line activities.
- Directly interact with internal business clients and regulatory
bodies to manage Markel Conduct Examinations, Audits or Regulatory
Investigations.
- Responsible for the negotiation and advocacy of Company
positions with regulatory authorities either individually or
through collaboration with L&C or the assistance of outside
counsel.
- Develop internal relationships to strengthen transparency and
approachability with business units.
- Collaborate with the compliance officers and compliance
associates within Markel in support of the implementation and
enforcement of compliance policies and procedures specific to those
units or departments, including those to address identified
compliance risks as well as those developed in response to new or
amended laws and regulations and industry best practices.
- Provide recommendations or workflows to cure any potential
compliance issues.
- Know company systems and workflows to understand the business
environment, including processes and technology in order to provide
analysis of, and compliance with, laws and regulations.
- Provide compliance advice with respect to potential
acquisitions and assist in due diligence process and collaborate
with internal and external business clients to provide compliance
advice on agreements and arrangements with potential third party
business partners.
- As needed, provide compliance guidance and feedback on
marketing, soliciting/selling and servicing of policies through web
or app based access points as well as traditional methods of
distribution.
- Work with the compliance officers of internal - entities, other
members of the L&C, and relevant business units to identify
compliance risks.
- Analyze and audit Company processes and provide a risk based
assessment to determine compliance vulnerabilities and
risks.Education
- College degree required
- Graduate or JD degree preferredWork Experience/Skill Set
