Provide direction and ensure execution of key operational objectives on a shift by shift basis. Ensure that assigned operators perform with best in class efficiencies in total compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety practices, Quality, Food Safety, Customer Service, and Productivity policies and procedures.Responsibilities Directly supervise operations unit employees on shift by scheduling, delegating tasks, coordinating, and informing employees, and ensuring compliance with all site processes and procedures. Re-assess and re-prioritizeIdentify operational roadblocks, perform troubleshooting activities, and seek resolution/removal of barriers to enable Production to move forward safely and within bounds of product quality and food safety expectations. Accountable to deliver all defined business objectives for assigned area.Enforce all Company and site policies and standards, including but not limited to, safety, quality, customer service and productivity.Accountable for the performance and policy adherence of teams under your direct Leadership.Effectively communicate Company and Site priorities to assigned area.Track and record all production downtime or interruptions. Identify opportunities for improvement and optimization in assigned area.Accountable to execute Manufacturing Operations according to directions established by Planning/Supply Chain and Site Operations Manager.Accountable for payroll, timekeeping, and attendance for assigned employees, including completing all related forms or reports.Ensure all activities are staffed with trained and qualified Operators to meet the commitments of Plant availability to the Supply Chain.Hire, promote, train, assign work to and monitor the performance of, discipline and discharge employees. Complete all HR related documentation.Orient new employees and provide training on all site-related processes and activitiesProvide feedback at regular intervals to team members and conduct performance evaluations of assigned employeesConduct pre-shift and shift change meetings to communicate any issues, concerns, and information as appropriate.Maintain teamwork, consistency, and fairness among all employees to foster a positive work environment.Administer collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Shift Managers are expected to recommend or participate in resolution of grievances when required, including investigation, and reporting to HR and the Site Director circumstances that led to the grievance.Respond to all identified or perceived Mechanical failures.Coordinate restoration of safe Operations to minimize plant downtime.Execute comprehensive investigations on all events/deviations as needed. Establish factors leading to an event, identify and install counter-measures to Production Operations.Manage the coordination of production activities with additional site activities.Act as AAK's representative and being accountable for work permits issued to employees and contractors including but not limited to Hot Work Permits, Confined Space Permits, and all other OSHA and Company required permits. Assess compliance with permitted activities. Act as needed to ensure safe work practices.Create Task Breakdowns, JHA/JSA, establish Best in Class (BiC) Ways of Work (WoW) and embed in systematic process throughout all activities in production/operations.Monitor employee performance and administer corrective action on an as needed basis.On-shift responsibility for all site defined food and quality safety rules, housekeeping, safe work habits, and safety best practices. Immediately address deviations ensuring accountability of all staff members.Document all incident reports as requited (EHSS, Quality, Service, or other) utilizing a fact based incident reporting format with an emphasis on establishing a clear root cause.Champion, lead and participate in 3S, 5S, Kaizen events and Continuous Improvement activities.Gain deep understanding of core processes on the assigned shift and within other operating areas of the plant.Partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Commercial and other departments to enhance communication and provide superior customer service.Identify and participate in opportunities for continuous learning and improvement of knowledge and skills needed to perform the role at a high level.In all duties, exercise independent and sound judgment to make decisions consistent with Company culture and philosophy.About you High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. 4 year degree in Chemical Engineering is highly desired.Minimum 5 years' experience in a Process Manufacturing environment with proven leadership experience.Understanding & knowledge of Bulk Material equipment (tanks, pipes, pumps); Process Manufacturing Equipment and EnvironmentCritical inter-personal skills - Must be able to tactfully navigate and influence with all peers that have varying experiences and objectives.Compliance:Working knowledge of industry regulations - local, state, Federal - Environmental, Safety (OSHA), USCG, Quality/Food Safety; BRC; FSMA; HACCPExperience in a 24 hour production facility leading - willingness to adapt and/or have flexible established scheduleCritical Thinking - Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting, cause finding and taking corrective actions to address system shutdowns in a high pressure environmentKnowledge of Vegetable Oil unit operations a plus.Resourcefulness - demonstrated ability to utilize resources to accomplish objectives.Microsoft Skills - familiarity and ability to utilize common MS Office suite - Excel, Word, PPTProcess Software - Familiarity and understanding of site Process Control software (Wonderware) and HMI Software.In return AAK offer---Career paths, training and development, e-learning and tuition reimbursement programs offering potential for you to progress your future career---Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental and vision) starting date of hire---Health Savings Account with AAK annual contribution of $1,000-$1,500---401(k) Plan with 100% match---Free Life and Disability insurance---Employee Assistance Program---Supplemental Pet Insurance, Identity Theft Protection and Legal Insurance Plans---Discounts on travel, amusement parks, concerts, movies, and more---Celebrations, events, and activities on site and supporting our communities---Amazon AwardCo recognition incentives for service and peer to peer recognitionAt AAK we strive to maintain a workplace that values diversity and inclusivity, to create an environment where our employees can unleash their true potential.
