The Global Supply Chain's Manufacturing team focuses on building high quality products for our customers in support of testing in clinical diagnostic labs and life sciences research. The Manufacturing teams are located in the Americas, Europe, and Singapore and produce regulated and non-regulated products that range from reagent kits to small and large instruments, plastics, and consumables. They also collaborate and work seamlessly with our supply chain to meet, and exceed, our customers' expectations.As our Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will lead the maintenance and engineering functions for the Richmond Chemical Plant that produces process chromatography resins, liquid buffers, monomer solutions, oils, and other specialized life science products. You will join the Site Leadership Team, reporting to the Plant Manager. In this role, you will be key to safely and efficiently meeting the current and future manufacturing commitments for a growing, key business for Bio-Rad.You will be responsible for maintaining site equipment and executing plant projects on equipment, including glass- lined reactors with heating systems, semi-automated fill lines, air classifiers, wet sizing units, inline mixing systems, and semi-automated dispense systems, among various others. Site Instrumentation includes control valves, temp, pressure, speed transmitters, and automation systems, including Allen Bradley RS Logix, Control/Compact Logix, Automation direct HMI, and PLCs.Your general manufacturing engineering manager duties include maintenance department supervision, coordination and control of maintenance activities, contractors, procurement and equipment to enhance plant safety, reliability, and dependability. Engineering team management to prioritize projects, ensure timely completion of projects, effective utilization of capital, and continuous improvement.How You'll Make An Impact:


  • You will support daily management, prioritization, and execution of maintenance requests and preventative maintenance work orders for a batch process chemical manufacturing and packaging facility.
  • Set priorities for your engineering Team of 2-3 engineers and a maintenance team of 4-6 employees.
  • Prepare and review relevant maintenance and engineering metrics to drive improvement on "time on tools", adherence to budget, project execution, and calibration performance.
  • Develop and manage all maintenance programs, including preventative maintenance, spare parts program, calibration program, planning and scheduling, training, and procedures.
  • Be accountable for all calibration activities performed by internal and contract staff and for all maintenance activities performed by the corporate facilities department.
  • Plan, staff, and manage plant projects to achieve safe, efficient execution and communication between work streams.
  • Ensure strong, disciplined project management from concept to turnover. Ensure stakeholders are engaged and valued throughout the process.
  • Develop and manage the plant's annual capital plan and budget, including development of a long-term facilities improvement strategy (3 to 10-year plan).
  • Oversee Process Safety Management program (PSM), lead and/or participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis and drive corrective actions.
  • Manage and control engineering technical and maintenance documentation. Drive improvements in quality and accuracy of documentation.
  • Drive improvements in department, and greater site, with particular emphasis on EHS programs, 5S/housekeeping standards and contractor management.
  • Provide leadership and development to the plant's maintenance and engineering personnel. Set expectations and hold employees accountable for performance and professional behavior.
  • Interact with site, business, and corporate personnel to share information and to collaborate and ensure stakeholder needs are understood.
    What You Bring:

    • You will have a BS Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred) plus broad enough engineering/technical experience and depth to lead a multi-disciplined engineering and maintenance team.
    • 5 or more years of industrial manufacturing leadership in engineering and/or maintenance, with direct supervisory experience of exempt and non-exempt employees.
    • You have previous experience in Project Management and/or managing Engineering Teams.
    • Experience in Maintenance EAM systems and good working knowledge of maintenance/reliability processes, mechanical integrity, quality assurance, and calibration programs.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing maintenance work safely, with preference given to candidates who have Process Safety Management experience as well as Operational Safety experience.Strong commitment to driving safety performance with team, contract partners, and site.
    • Direct experience in continuous improvement, Lean or Six Sigma, is highly desirable.
    • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization and adapt written and oral communications to match audience needs.
    • Leadership skills, including the ability to train, coach, and mentor others and effectively manage performance concerns.Experience managing union employees is desirable.
    • Experience in California and/or Contra Costa County regulations, HazOps analysis, or Process Hazard Analysis is a plus.
      This position is eligible for a $10,000 HIRING BONUS: Offered for a limited time only. Applicable to specific positions as labeled. Recipients must be employed at the time of payout. Payout after 30 days of employment with Bio-Rad. Offered to direct hires only. Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $127,000 to $174,700 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
