Job DescriptionTitle: -Attendance -OfficerDivision: -School-WideLocation: -Making Waves Academy -RichmondReports to: -School -RegistrarStatus: -Non-Exempt, -Full-Time, During the Academic Year (August - Mid June)Hourly Range: -$21.00 - $25.00Position SummaryThe -Attendance Officer -supports -students and families -with attendance challenges, interprets -and enforces -attendance policies, works as a team with school administrators to develop -prevention/intervention strategies, monitors student progress, and makes referrals to appropriate community agencies when necessary. -The -Attendance Officer -shall support the educational process by ensuring students develop and -maintain good attendance practices and that parents support the attendance requirements.Primary ResponsibilitiesAttendance Intervention

  • Support with -the -implementation of -school handbook policies on attendance.
  • Manage the involuntary removal process for no-show students. -
  • Utilize school -attendance data -to identify students who are chronically absent.
  • Monitor occurrences of extreme absenteeism, unexcused absences, and excessive tardiness -and provide reports to school leaders and staff.
  • Implement MWA's Student Attendance Review Board process including but not limited to:
    • Identifying key staff members who will serve on the Student Attendance Review Board
    • Communicating -with parents to discuss attendance issues
    • Generating -and sending out -truancy letters
    • Scheduling meetings with parents to discuss attendance issues
    • Generating referral packets for students to the Contra Costa County Office of Education Student Attendance Review Board
    • Act as a liaison between the school and community agencies, such as public and private welfare, psychiatric, and law enforcement agencies.Attendance -Awareness & -Education
      • Create and implement attendance education campaigns regarding the importance of attendance.
      • Provide families with information related to the needs of their child and acts as a resource to parents/guardians by providing family support activities and communicating the importance of school attendance.
      • Acts as a resource to administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and health services personnel at assigned schools regarding attendance programs, interpretation of attendance policies/laws, and record-keeping requirements.
      • Supports the promotion of co-curricular and extracurricular activities that increase pupil connectedness to school, such as tutoring, mentoring, the arts, service learning, or athletics.
      • Assists with implementing truancy prevention programs for assigned schools and recommends strategies to support and improve regular school attendance (i.e.: incentives, peer groups, recognitions).
      • Compile data to identify trends in absences and excessive tardiness to inform awareness and education campaigns.Additional Responsibilities and ExpectationsMission -Alignment

            • Frequently walk across the middle and upper school campus, and climb stairs.
            • Participate in campus supervision duty each week -- Monday through Friday frequency may vary based on the supervision assignment each semester.
            • Lift -files, -open -filing cabinets, -bend -or stand -on a -stool as necessary, and sit for long -periods.QualificationsExperience
              • Minimum -three -(3) -years -of experience working with -families from -historically underserved communities
              • Ability to meet deadlines on a tight schedule
              • Understanding of California Education Code as it relates to student behavior and conductSkills
                • Highly effective -and professional -communication skills -with staff, students, -and families
                • Ability to adapt and align on school-related initiatives
                • Highly organized, goal-oriented, and focused on outcomes
                • Ability to communicate with -and build relationships with students and their families in the culturally and linguistically diverse MWA community
