They work closely with partners and clients to further accelerate the development of high-quality biologics and deliver long-lasting value to the biopharmaceutical industry.We are seeking an exceptional candidate for our Veterinary Technician I position.SALARY: -68k-90kGENERAL SUMMARY:Veterinary Technician, I work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Lab Animal Sciences and the general guidance of the senior staff. Veterinary Technician, I assist veterinary staff in the documentation and veterinary clinical care of all laboratory animal health cases. The goal of this department is to collaborate with and provide expert support to our research scientists in the discovery, characterization, and development of novel therapeutic products for a variety of human diseases. As a Laboratory Animal Sciences (LAS) team, we are dedicated to providing excellent animal care, progressive veterinary medicine, and expert lab animal science knowledge.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and veterinary clinical care of all laboratory animal health cases identified by technical staff and/or veterinarians. Effectively communicate any animal issues to veterinary staff and Study Directors.
  • Monitors animal health, by performing rounds, responding to animal health reports, and following schedules. Maintains appropriate medical records for each animal in accordance with study and regulatory requirements.
  • Consult with veterinarians and veterinary staff on treatment options. Generates animal treatment records and performs, tracks, and schedules follow-ups.
  • Performs routine veterinary technical and husbandry skills including but not limited to the following:
  • Safely and correctly handle and restrain animals for observation, routine animal manipulations, and procedures;
  • Administer medications by oral, topical, and injectable routes of administration;
  • Verifies drugs/medications prior to use and calculates dose administrations;
  • Responsible for routine animal manipulations and administration of fluids or other treatments as required
  • Bandage/wrapping techniques;
  • Nail/teeth clipping/trimming;
  • Venipuncture techniques;
  • Monitor critical care animals (i.e., place IVs, monitor fluids, etc.);
  • Specimen collection such as blood and feces;
  • TB testing, weighing, physical examinations, radiographs, and other technical procedures as needed.
  • May be responsible for euthanasia, and tissue sampling.
  • Responsible to assess animal health and under supervision, may be responsible to provide immediate care to emergency cases.
  • May assist with minor surgical procedures.
  • Assist in keeping inventory and monitoring expiration dates of veterinary supplies.
  • May be responsible for the documentation and distribution of controlled substances under the guidance of the DEA Officer (DO).
  • Responsible for sanitization of assigned areas.
  • Independently reads and understands study protocols and relevant SOPs prior to performing associated duties on designated research projects.
  • May review company guidelines and SOPs.
  • May acquire Designated Trainer role.
  • Comprehends procedures and performs tasks according to company policies and SOPs.
  • Complies with all regulatory guidelines, occupational health as well as health and safety programs, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.PROBLEM-SOLVING/DECISION-MAKING:
    • Veterinary Technician, I perform duties according to written protocols, guidelines, and SOPs.
    • Obtains assistance or reports problems to veterinarians or senior personnel.PLANNING:
      • May provide information to improve current procedures or methods, SOPs, study protocols, or other related documents.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
        • May advise Animal Care Technicians and Research Associates in the documentation and triage of all animal health cases, as required.
        • May acquire designated trainer status.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education Work Experience
          • Veterinary Technology Degree (or equivalent degree) preferred.
          • AALAS Certifications preferred
          • 0- 2 years of related experience working with animals in a pre-clinical laboratory or clinical setting; experience working with multi-species preferred.
          • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory
          • Substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
            • Personnel working with animals or animal-derived samples must provide proof of measles (MMR- Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or updated titer prior to initial contact with animals or animal-derived samples.
            • Personnel working with animals or animal-derived samples must provide documented proof of a current negative result of TB testing within the past calendar year or be tested prior to initial contact with animals. Annual tuberculosis screening is required of all employees working in the laboratory setting.
            • Required to shower in barrier animal facilities and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in each area as described by SOPs.
            • Physical dexterity to lift 50 - 100 lb. in weight.
            • Manual dexterity to operate facility equipment.
            • Visual acuity to handle potentially hazardous chemicals, cleaners, biologics (including, but not limited to direct handling of human byproducts and viruses), and/or sharpsENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
              • Biological safety level (BSL) 1 and 2 laboratory and vivarium settings.
              • Potential for exposure to disinfectants, chemicals, biologics, animal dander, and dust.
              • Normal scientific laboratory conditions.
              • May work with hazardous materials and unpleasant odors.SCHEDULE:
