Job Description:

Responsible for the daily supervision of the Manufacturing Maintenance staff and contracted service providers at Bio-Rad's Richmond Chemical Plant. The supervisor is responsible for directing and developing the Maintenance team of 4-5 technicians and overseeing other contractors and Bio-Rad staff performing work at the site. The Maintenance Supervisor has primary accountability for manufacturing equipment up-time through proactive monitoring and reliability analysis, rapid response to issues, and maintaining the required skills and capacity within the team. The supervisor, under direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, will establish and maintain policies and procedures which ensure that equipment maintenance is performed at required frequencies.The manufacturing equipment includes glass-lined reactors with heating systems, semi-automated fill lines, air classifiers, wet sizing units, inline mixing systems, and semi-automated dispense systems among various others. Instrumentation includes control valves, temp, pressure, speed transmitter and automation systems include Allen Bradley RS Logix, Control/Compact Logix, Automation direct HMI, and PLCsHow You'll Make An Impact:


  • Manages and directs all process equipment maintenance activities, (including installation, modification, calibration, repairs, and preventive maintenance), to ensure minimum downtime and continuous operational availability.
  • Monitors and tracks daily submitted work orders to ensure appropriate prioritization and assignment to staff, contractors, and service providers.
  • Sets daily priorities for in-house technicians and works with other Bio-Rad departments to correctly prioritize requests.
  • Coordinates the activities of the contracted services and the Facilities department technicians including modifying work duties to meet production schedules.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment/tools/spare parts, setup/work instructions.
  • Maintains current calibration on all process equipment, and recordkeeping, and complies with in-house SOPs as well as NIST and Manufacturer standards.
  • Maintains site wastewater system, boilers, air compressors, and water purification units.
  • Coordinates and directs small projects, working with other departments within Bio-Rad and external contractors.
  • Requests bids and initiate contracts or purchase requests for equipment and services.
  • Completes required data input/report output/updating of the Computerized Maintenance Management System used for scheduling all maintenance activities.
  • Ensures that safety procedures and practices are adhered to by all maintenance staff, vendors, suppliers, service providers, contractors, and any other persons involved in maintenance operations.
  • Directly supervises single Monday to Friday maintenance shift but may be required to respond to equipment-related emergencies during off-hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Facilities teams, Engineering and Project Management teams.
    What You Bring:

    • Technical education is required with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Relevant experience will be looked at in lieu of education.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in equipment maintenance with experience in a GMP/ISO-regulated manufacturing environment highly desirable.
    • Lead or supervisory experience in manufacturing or maintenance preferred. Experience with unions is desirable.
    • Working knowledge of equipment maintenance, calibration systems, and validation processes. Preference given to candidate with previous experience with the equipment, instrumentation, and automation systems on site.
    • Knowledge of National, Federal, State, and local codes and regulations applicable to the facility is desirable.
    • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
    • Ability to train and develop subordinate employee technical skills.
    • Intermediate PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, database software, manufacturing software).
    • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential to communicate at all organizational levels professionally and effectively.
    • TPM/LEAN & Lean/Six Sigma experience is a plus.
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills along with the demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions.
      This position is eligible for a $5,000 HIRING BONUS: Offered for a limited time only. Applicable to specific positions as labeled. Recipients must be employed at the time of payout. Payout after 30 days of employment with Bio-Rad. Offered to direct hires only. Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $89,300 to $122,800 at the time of posting. This range is inclusive of all geographic locations within the United States.
